Game Overview
Splinterlands is a unique digital trading card game that allows players to truly own their cards and other in-game assets, allows its players to earn by playing. Thanks to web 3.0 technology powered by the HIVE blockchain, each card in Splinterlands is a non-fungible token owned by a player. That means that players can do anything they want with their cards, including battling for rewards, holding as collectibles, trading on the peer-to-peer market, combining to level up, or even burning to obtain Dark Energy Crystals, the official in-game cryptocurrency of Splinterlands. Splinterlands battles are fast, with each match taking only 2-3 minutes. Rather than turn-based action in which every move is carefully and slowly controlled, Splinterlands’ main mechanic is a drafting style. Once an opponent is found, each player assembles a team of up to 6 cards from their Splinterlands collection. Then according to a unique set of rules that make every match different, the battle is played out automatically in a quick action-packed format that allows players to learn from both victory and defeat.

1. Summoner’s Spellbook
The Summoner’s Spellbook (Starter Pack) upgrade is REQUIRED to earn rewards and access all functionalities of Splinterlands. The one-time upgrade costs $10.
● Purchasing the Spellbook
The Summoner’s Spellbook upgrade can be purchased with Paypal, or with one of the 20+ cryptocurrencies accepted by Splinterlands.
●Before the Spellbook
Splinterlands is free to try, giving players a chance to learn the mechanics and begin collecting cards before purchasing the Summoner’s Spellbook, but those who are not upgraded miss out on several important features of the game.
No Rewards can be Earned –Players can accept gifts, but they do not earn DEC rewards for battling or rewards for the completion of Daily Quests and Seasons.
No Tournaments –Only Spellbook-upgraded players have the opportunity to participate in tournaments through the Splinterlands tournament interface.
No Trading on the Market –Because a player’s blockchain account is not created until they upgrade by purchasing the Summoner’s Spellbook, they are unable to make transactions, such as buying or selling packs and individual cards.
●After the Spellbook
Once the Summoner’s Spellbook upgrade has been completed, a unique HIVE blockchain account is created for the player and all functions and features of the game are opened to them. After the upgrade, players can…

●Earn DEC or Credits for battling
●Earn Daily Quest and Season rewards
●Join tournaments

Once the Spellbook has been purchased, players are able to locate it in the
The cost associated with creating a HIVE blockchain account is covered by Splinterlands, and enough resource credits are provided to play Splinterlands. The Summoner’s Spellbook upgrade is how players create blockchain accounts that turn them into Splinterlands owners by unlocking their ability to earn for life playing Splinterlands.
2. Splinterlands CARD TYPES:
Summoners:A magic user who harnesses one of six primal forces. They use this power to summon monsters.
Monsters:Any person or creature that is called forth by a Summoner to do battle. Monsters do the actual fighting.
Both Summoners and Monsters may be found in Splinterlands Booster Packs.
3. Splinterlands SPLINTERS
There are six sources of magic in the Splinterlands::FIRE、WATER、EARTH、LIFE、DEATH、DRAGON
Each of these primal forces is championed by distinct factions known as Splinters. A Summoner uses magic to call upon the various races, habitats, and creatures that exist within the same Splinter. For example, a Summoner of the Earth Splinter will be able to call forth monsters that live in the mountains and forests.
4. Splinterlands CARD BASICS
Now let’s take a closer look at a game card. This one is a monster card from the Fire splinter. Here’s a quick breakdown:
1. Mana Cost:The more powerful the card, the higher the Mana Cost. This cost will influence how you create teams.
2. STATS:These numbers reflect the physical power, speed, toughness, and health of the character.
3. Splinter/Rarity:The icon represents Splinter and the color indicates Rarity (Common, Rare, Epic, or Legendary).
4. Name:This is the name of the character.
5. Level:A higher level translates to a more powerful card. Gaining levels may increase STATS or unlock abilities.
6. Experience:Experience is gained by combining duplicate cards. A green bar indicates your progress to the next level.
7. Abilities:These are special skills or powers that are used during combat.
5. Splinterlands STATS
As mentioned previously, STATS are the core attributes of the character. If you ever want to review how a character’s STATS will change as it levels up, simply head over to Your Collection. Click on the character, then select the second tab labeled “STATS”. This will display a chart that shows you all the STAT increases and Ability unlocks for each level.
STATS:We’ll start off with Attack. If the character has the ability to Attack (most of them do), it will display one of the following three Attack forms
●MELEE ATTACK:This means you’re slashing at the enemy up close. Under normal circumstances, the attacker must be in the front row. Damage is assigned to the enemy Armor before health is affected. Chance to miss.
●RANGED ATTACK:The character attacks from a distance. Unable to attack from the front row. Damage is assigned to the enemy Armor before health is affected. Chance to miss.
●MAGIC ATTACK:Characters with magic attack may do damage from any row. Not only that, this form of attack ignores the defender’s Armor STAT (damage is applied directly to health). There is no miss chance. It always hits.
OTHER STATS
●SPEED:Speed determines the order in which characters attack. It also makes the character harder to hit with Melee or Ranged attacks.
●ARMOR:Enemy combatants must first deplete a character’s Armor before any damage can be applied to the defender’s health. If an attacker destroy’s a defender’s Armor, any extra damage from the attack is lost.
●HEALTH:This one is pretty straightforward. Once a character’s health hits zero, it dies.
6. Splinterlands ABILITIES
Abilities are what make the fights interesting. Each one makes a unique contribution to the outcome of the battle. They are critical to formulating a winning strategy.Often times, you’ll notice that certain splinters may specialize or perhaps even have exclusive access to specific abilities.
The Abilities currently in the game are as follows:
●Affliction:When a Monster with Affliction hits a target, it has a chance of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed.

●Backfire:If an enemy misses this Monster with an attack, the attacker takes 2 damage.

7. Splinterlands BATTLEFIELD
To be successful in battle you have to understand the terrain. The battlefield consists of two rows and six positions. The strength of your forces depends on how you can utilize these positions and anticipate your opponent.
8. PREPARING FOR BATTLE
●You can choose to play a Ranked or a Practice battle. Each battle is unique, so once you’re matched with an opponent you will see a popup showing you the combat rules for that battle and other information for that battle only.
●In this example, there are no changes to the standard combat rules, your team is limited to a total of 25 Mana, and you may only use characters from the Fire, Earth, or Death splinters. Armed with this knowledge, you are now ready to create your team.
STEP 1: SUMMONER
First, you’ll need to select a Summoner. The team building screen will display all the Summoners in your Collection. Your choice of Summoner will determine which Monsters you can use, so choose wisely.
NOTE: The level of your Summoner determines the level of the Monsters that can be added to the team. To see the capabilities of your Summoner, click on the Summoner card from your Collection screen, then select the STATS tab.
STEP 2: MONSTERS
Now that you’ve chosen a Summoner, the Monsters from the Summoner’s splinter will be made available for selection. You may also choose any Neutral monsters, which are monsters that hold no particular allegiance.
You’ve already spent a few Mana when you selected your Summoner. Keep an eye on the Mana counter. It will indicate how close you are to reaching the limit.
POSITIONING
The first Monster on the list will be in the front row once combat begins. Remember the three forms of Attack? Melee and Magic attackers may hit from the front row, however Ranged attackers require distance from their foe. Keep this in mind when you organize who goes where.
When the Monster in the front row (tank position) dies, the next Monster moves up to take the first spot. This continues until there are no Monsters left.
To move a Monster to a different slot, simply drag a Monster to the slot you wish it to occupy.
9. Splinterlands Game Battles
In Splinterlands there are two different gameplay formats: Wild Ranked Battles & Modern Ranked Battles. Although the gameplay is very similar in both formats, there are a few crucial differences between the two:
●Modern:Players who mainly own newer cards might benefit from playing in the Modern format. Only cards from newer card editions are playable in this format, so players don’t need to worry about having to compete against older cards which may be difficult to acquire due to their scarcity. This will make gameplay fairer for newer players by giving them more of a level playing field.
●Wild Ranked Battles:Veteran players or players with a more diverse collection including Alpha & Beta cards, on the other hand, may enjoy playing in the Wild format, where all cards from all sets are playable.
Of course, players are free to choose whichever format best fits their card collection & play style, and can switch between one format and the other whenever they want.
10. Splinterlands Challenging and Practice Matches
Another great way to put your skills to the test is by extending a challenge to a specific player, by selecting the Challenge option on the battle screen. Here you will be able to select the player whom you would like to challenge as well as set the level limits and cards to be used for the challenge. By selecting the Practice option from the main battle screen you will be able to practice your skillset in unranked matches. This will help you to familiarise yourself with the battle selection process as well as experiment with battle strategies in a neutral environment that does not affect your rank. Note that both Challenge and Practice matches will be considered Wild battles.
11. Watching Battles
One of the best ways to learn to play is by watching the battles of other more experienced players. You can easily watch the battles of any player from the BATTLEpage. By clicking the TOP BATTLES tab, you’ll be able to see the highest-ranked battles in the currently selected League of play. You can also enter the name of a specific player in the search bar to check out their most recent battles.
12. Drafting a Team
Drafting a team is the basic mechanic of battling in Splinterlands. Players have a limited time to create a team from their card collection, then that team is sent to battle against an opponent’s team. The battle process begins when you select the Battle Format that you would like to participate inon the Battle page, you can choose between the Wild or Modern battle formats.
●Once you have made your selection, you can proceed by clicking on Battle.
●First, you will have to wait a few moments as an appropriate opponent is found. Then you will be presented with a Match Begins screen that displays a countdown, the restrictions and rules of the battle, and your opponent’s recent battle history. If you have selected the Wild battle format you will be matched with an opponent who has made the same selection, and only Wild battles will appear on their recently played teams display, the same applies to the Modern battle format,If you have selected theModernbattle format you will be matched with an opponent who has made the same selection, and onlyModern battleswill appear on their recently played teams display.
●The clock is already ticking, so after glancing at this information, accept the battle by clicking Create Teamand you will be brought to the page where you will draft your team.
●Once the drafting page appears, you’ll see several things, as pictured below (for this example we have used the Wildbattle format). On the left is your team line-up that is initially empty. On the top, you’ll see the countdown timer, as well as restrictions and rulesets for the battle, and the allowed Splinters/Elements. Just below are various filtration tools that will enable you to quickly sort through your collection and find the cards that you’re looking for.
●Finally, you’ll see your playable Summoners for this battle. You must choose one to determine the monster cards from which you can draft the rest of your lineup. The image below displays cards playable in the Wild battle format, If you have selected the Modern battle format, the available card selection may vary, as only Modern cards will be displayed.
Drafting a Team:
Pick a Summoner and it will fill the left YOUR SUMMONERspace. The cards that can be summoned by that Summoner will then appear on the screen.
●One by one, pick cards to place them in the YOUR MONSTERScolumn. The total mana of your team must fall within the mana cap that is listed above your lineup.
●You can rearrange the order of the team after picking Monsters/Units by dragging their name to the desired slot in the YOUR MONSTERS column.
●That’s it! You have until the timer runs out to select your cards and click BATTLEto submit your team.
13. Splinterlands Ranked Battle Rewards
For each ranked battle won, players earn both ranking points and Dark Energy Crystals.
The ranked reward system has been put into place to allow each player across all leagues the opportunity to earn increased rewards for daily participation in a sustainable way for battles played with real cards (whether owned or rented).
For each Modern or Wild Ranked Battle won the player will be rewarded with R-Shares (Reward Shares) as well as DEC (Dark Energy Crystals.)
The use of Gold Foil and older edition cards in battle, being on a win-streak, and benefits from the guild quest lodge will increase not only your DEC rewards from ranked battles but also your daily quest and season rewards!
●What are R-shares:
R-Shares (Reward Shares) are earned from Modern or Wild ranked battle wins and will determine the season and daily rewards in addition to DEC rewards. Reward Points earned in both Modern and Wild formats contribute to a player’s Daily Focus and Season Rewards.
●What is a Starter Card:
Starter Cards are the cards that can be used by players in battles even if they don’t own (or haven’t rented) them. Starter cards are indicated by an S on a blue banner in the upper corner:
●How Does Starter Cards Affect Ranked Rewards:Each “starter card” used in a ranked battle win will REDUCE the reward shares earned, with 100% starter cards = 0 reward shares
●Why Does the Use of Starter Cards Reduce My Rewards:
